TranscenDANCE

Written and directed by Aude Leroux-Lévesque and Sébastien Rist

Feature-length documentary film | In production

In the late 1990s, amidst a political and social climate marked by uncertainty, Quebec youth took over urban wastelands to create clandestine spaces for celebration and freedom: raves. Fueled by electronic music, dance, and ecstasy, this counterculture invented a collective ritual based on communion, equality, and the present moment.

TRANSCENDANCE traces the history of this utopia, from its clandestine beginnings to its commercialization. This film, with its unique cinematic approach, follows the structure of a rave night (preparation, trance, comedown) to allow viewers to relive this experience from the inside.

Through voices, bodies in motion, rare archival footage, and immersive staging, the film does more than simply document a phenomenon: it explores what it reveals about our fundamental need for connection and community, and what remains of it today.
